An index theorem for deformation quantization is a generalization of the famous Atiyah-Singer theorem. This theorem was annonced by the author in 1989 and the proof was published in 1991 [\textit{B. Fedosov}, Index theorems. Itogi Nauki Tekh., Ser. Sovrem. Probl. Mat., Fundam. Napravleniya 65, 155-251 (1991); translation in Partial differential equations 65, VIII. Encycl. Math. Sci. 65, 155-251 (1991; Zbl 0884.58087)]. This proof was modification of the Atiyah-Singer K-theoretical proof. In this paper the author gives a new proof of the index theorem for deformation quantization following the Atiyah-Bott-Patodi scheme [see \textit{M. Atiyah, R. Bott} and \textit{V. K. Patodi}, Invent. Math. 19, 279-330 (1973; Zbl 0257.58008)]. The author uses the Tamarkin theorem [\textit{D. E. Tamarkin}, Funct. Anal. Appl. 29, No. 4, 258-267 (1995); translation from Funkts. Anal. Prilozh. 29, No. 4, 45-56 (1995; Zbl 0878.58002)] on topological connections which is a symplectic analog of the well-known theorems for Riemann connections using in the Atiyah-Bott-Patodi method. Using this theorem the author constructs some an averaging procedure which transforms any topological functional (and, in particular, the trace functional which defines the index in the case of deformation quantization) to its standard form. This standard form is an integral with integrand in the form of power series in \(h\) whose coefficients are universal polynomials in Pontryagin and Chern forms and the simplectic form \(\omega\). Thereafter the author reduces the proof of the index formula to check this formula for two particular cases: for complex projective spaces with atrivial line bundle and for the 2-dimensional torus with an arbitrary bundle. This is done at the end of the article by means of the reduction theorem for deformation quantization [\textit{B. Fedosov}, Lett. Math. Phys. 43, No. 2, 137-154 (1998)] providing a description of deformation quantization for projective spaces in terms of harmonic oscillator.
