The eigenvalue problem for \(3\times 3\) octonion Hermitian matrices of the exceptional Jordan algebra is studied. Eigenmatrices are constructed and using the Jordan formulation of quantum mechanics it is speculated where this mathematics could be useful in physics. The appendix shows how \(F_4\) transformations can be used to diagonalize \(3\times 3\) octonionic matrices of the exceptional Jordan algebra.
