Let \({\mathcal {L}}_A\) be the lattice of clones of functions on a finite set \(A\), \(|A|\geq 3\). For every maximal clone \(C\), the set of all clones with the same unary functions as \(C\) is an interval in \({\mathcal {L}}_A\). These intervals are considered in the article under review. Given any central relation \(\alpha\) on \(A\), it is proven that \(|\text{{Int}} \text{{Pol}}_1\alpha|=2^{\aleph_0}\) (\(\text{{Pol}}_1\alpha\) is the set of all unary function preserving the relation \(\alpha\)). Moreover, the author proves that there are \(2^{\aleph_0}\) clones on \(A\) containing all the functions with the property \(|\text{{Im}} f|\leq|A|-2\) and that there are \(2^{\aleph_0}\) simple algebras over \(A\) which are not polynomially equivalent and have no proper subalgebras and nontrivial automorphisms. Reviewer's remark: It is worth noting that the term ``monoidal interval'' is used here instead of the term ``monoid interval'' employed in the author's article [Algebra Logika 34, No. 3, 288-310 (1995; Zbl 0848.08002)].
