A collineation group \(G\) of a projective plane \(\pi\) is called totally irregular if each \(G\)-orbit of points is irregular, that is, the stabiliser of any point in \(G\) is not \(1\). In the paper under review, the authors prove that only finitely many alternating groups can be totally irregular collineation groups of projective planes. Precisely, they prove that if \(R\) is a subset of the set of positive integers, and \(S=\{(G_r,\pi_r)\mid r\in R\}\) is a sequence of totally irregular collineation groups, with \(G_r\) isomorphic to the alternating group of degree \(r\), on projective planes \(\pi_r\), then \(R\) is a finite set, and if \(N\) is the maximal element in \(R\), then \(R\leq 21\). Furthermore, if \(G_r\) contains a perspectivity, then \(N\leq r\), and all involutions are perspectivities.
