The authors present a simple numerical model for the simulation of frictional wear behavior, in a fully nonlinear kinematic setting, including large slip and finite deformation. The model relies on the introduction of an internal variable related to the state conditions at the contact surface. The fully nonlinear frictional contact formulation, derived first in a continuum setting by \textit{J. C. Simo} and \textit{T. A. Laursen} [Comput. Struct. 42, No. 1, 97-116 (1992; Zbl 0755.73085)], is extended here to accommodate the wear frictional behavior. Within the computational aspects, the authors discuss two families of robust time-stepping algorithms arising from an operator splitting of the constrainedfrictional evolution equations. Finally, following current approaches, a long-tiime tool wear prediction is given by using a priori wear estimates derived form Archard's law. The numerical model is implemented in an enhanced version of the finite element program FEAP. Numerical examples show the ability of the proposed model to capture essential features of frictional behavior at contact interfaces and to provide a prediction of tool wear in forming operations.
