An inverse problem for determining the right-hand side (time-varying heat source) in a two-dimensional unsteady heat conduction problem with interior measurements is considered. As the problem is ill-posed, the authors use the conjugate gradient method with a stopping criterion based on the discrepancy principle to solve it in a stable way. The Karhunen-Loève Galerkin procedure is used to implement the method numerically.
