The authors simulate the flow of Oldroyd-B fluid past a cylinder in a channel by using an unstructured finite volume method based on a discrete adaptive elastic viscous split stress (DAVSS) scheme with an independent interpolation of the vorticity (DAVSS-\(\omega\)). The drag coefficient decreases first and then increases with the increase in the Deborah number De. The authors show that the drag increase at high De occurs due to the increasing extension effect in regions near the front and near the stagnation point.
