Asymptotic analysis of stability for prismatic solids under axial loads (Q1973978)

Using special asymptotic analysis based on the multiple scale method, the authors analyze the stability of an elastic rod subjected to axial load. The method is suitable for homogeneous prismatic rods with arbitrary simply connected cross-sections. The eigenvalues of the superposed (linear) problem are determined together with the critical strain corresponding to zero eigenvalue. The authors apply their analysis to some cross-sections.
