The authors obtain a Weierstrass type representation for flat surfaces in hyperbolic \(3\)-space in terms of holomorphic (Weierstrass) data, similar in flavour to \textit{R. Bryant's} representation for cmc-\(1\) surfaces in hyperbolic \(3\)-space [Astérisque 154-155, 321-347 (1988; Zbl 0635.53047)]. And, as in the case of cmc-1 surfaces, a hyperbolic Gauss map is shown to be conformal -- in the present case conformal with respect to the conformal structure induced by the second fundamental form. After discussing parallel surfaces and surfaces of revolution as examples, the authors turn to a discussion of ends of flat surfaces: the notions of the multiplicity of an end and of a regular end are introduced, and the embeddedness and the asymptotic behaviour of ends are studied. In particular it is shown that, for regular ends, there exist model flat surfaces of revolution that have the same asymptotic behaviour.
