A problem for a singularly perturbed parabolic equation defined on a halfstrip and having incompatible boundary and initial conditions is considered. The presence of characteristic of the corresponding degenerate hyperbolic equation that emanates from the angular point of the boundary is a characteristic feature of this equation, thus rendering the classic boundary-layer methods inapplicable to this problem. In this paper the asymptotic representation of the solution is constructed as a series having the special form \[ \sum_{i=0}^\infty \mu^i u_i(x,t,\mu). \] This allows one to take into account the behavior of the solution to the initial problem in the neighbourhood of the angular characteristic without applying the smoothing procedure and to resolve the above difficulties.
