The welcoming of Copernicus's \textit{de revolutionibus}: The \textit{commentariolus} and its reception (Q1975212)

``Copernicus used it (=Epitome of the Almagest; by Peuerbach and Regiomontanus), both in the `Commentariolus' and in `De revolutionibus', and there \(\dots\) he found the path that led him to heliocentricity'' (S. 171). Um diese Aussage gruppiert sich der vorliegende Aufsatz, so etwa: ``As Copernicus took pains to point out, none of the ancients had established a fully satisfactory account of the heavenly motions'' (S. 159), ferner finden sich hilfreiche Anmerkungen zu seinem Leben -- ``Yet the astronomy that preoccupied him was only a part of his life'' (S. 159) -- und zu den Werken, auf die er seit Apollonios and Ptolemaios zurückgreifen konnte; und trotzdem: ``It was this vast, aether-filled universe that Copernicus inherited'' (S. 167). Als er schließlich der Sonne ihre ruhende Position zuwies und die Erde als Planet einstufte, da hob er die bis dahin scharfe Trennung zwischen himmlischen und irdischen Sphären auf. Viele Zwischenüberschriften wie ``The Earth and Sun change Places'' (S. 173) und Skizzen dienen dazu, den komplizierten Stoff verständlich darzustellen. Zum Abschluß wird noch davon berichtet, wie der ``Commentariolus'' seinerzeit vermutlich verbreitet wurde.
