Given Banach spaces \(\mathcal U\) and \(\mathcal F\), denote by \(\mathcal L(\mathcal U; \mathcal F)\) the space of continuous linear operator from \(\mathcal U\) into \(\mathcal F\) and denote by \(\mathcal Gl(\mathcal U;\mathcal F)\) the space of densely-defined closed linear operators from \(\mathcal U\) into \(\mathcal F\). The author studies the Cauchy problem \[ u(0) = u_0 \] for the operator-differential equation \[ L\frac{d}{d t}u(t) = Mu(t), \] where the operator \(L\in \mathcal L(\mathcal U; \mathcal F)\) is not continuously invertible and \(M\in\mathcal Gl(\mathcal U;\mathcal F)\). The author introduces the notion of an (\(L,p,\alpha,\beta\))-sectorial operator (this property of an operator is sufficient for the existence of an infinitely differentiable semigroup for the operator-differential equation) and finds the phase space of the above equation. The existence of a unique solution to the Cauchy problem with the values \(u_0\) in the subspace \(\text{im}((\mu L - M)^{-1}L)^{p+1}\) is proven. For \(p=0\), this is equivalent to the existence of a solution in the sense of convergence in the seminorm \(\|\cdot\|_{M^{-1}L}\) for every \(u_0\). The author also generalizes a part of the theory of analytic semigroups of operators with kernel. Moreover, the author generalizes results obtained by \textit{A.~Favini} and \textit{A.~Yagi} [Ann. Mat. Pura Appl., IV. Ser. 163, 353-384 (1993; Zbl 0786.47037)]about the homogeneous Cauchy problem.
