The classical Wigner's unitary-antiunitary theorem concerns definite inner product spaces. It states that every ray transformation on a Hilbert space \(H\) which preserves the transition probabilities can be lifted to a linear unitary or a conjugate-linear antiunitary operator on \(H\). In the paper, the general Wigner-type theorem which involves not one but a pair of ray transformation is proved. Then it is applied to obtain a generalization of Wigner's theorem for indefinite inner product spaces. The indefinite inner product need not to be Hermitian. The algebraic approach used earlier in \textit{L. Molnár} [J. Aust. Math. Soc., Ser. A 65, No. 3, 354-369 (1998; Zbl 0943.46033) and J. Math. Phys. 40, No. 11, 5544-5554 (1999)] is applied. The case of indefinite inner product spaces is applicable to some quantum field theory problems (divergence, locality, relativistic covariance).
