Using a perturbation analysis, the authors investigate a pulsating line source in the presence of a nearly circular cylinder submerged in deep water, and obtain first-order corrections of complex amplitudes of the waves radiated by the source at the right or left infinity. It has been shown that the maximum values of amplitudes of the waves radiated at either infinity due to the source are the same, regardless of the relative positions of the source and the cylinder, and also regardless of the shape of the nearly circular cylinder.
