On the asymptotic behaviour of a one-dimensional monocharged plasma and a rescaling method (Q1977676)

The authors prove results about the large-time behaviour of a monocharged plasma in one dimension as described by the Vlasov-Poisson system. A rescaling method is used to modify the system, and the rescaled system possesses an explicit solution which turns out to be a globally attractive steady solution. Type and rate of attraction to the steady state are investigated in detail, but it is also shown that this attraction is lost upon transformation to the original variables; hence the rescaling method effects stability properties of solutions.
