For a convex body \(K\) in \(\mathbb{R}^n\) with 0 in its interior, let \(M(K)= \int_{S^{n-1}} \|\omega \|_K d\mu(\omega)\), where \(\mu\) is the rotation invariant probability measure on the unit sphere \(S^{n-1}\) (so that \(2M (K)\) is the mean width of the polar body \(K^o)\). It is proved that a suitable affine image of \(K\) satisfies \(M(K)M (K^o)\leq Cn^{1/2} \log^an\) with some absolute constants \(C\) and \(a\). This is used to show that the (generalized Banach-Mazur) distance of two \(n\)-dimensional convex bodies \(K\) and \(D\), defined by \[ d(K,D)= \inf\{\lambda \mid TK\subset D+x \subset\lambda TK\}, \] where the infimum is taken over all \(x\in \mathbb{R}^n\) and all invertible linear operators \(T\), does not exceed \(n^{4/3}\) up to a logarithmic factor.
