In this paper a theorem on existence of \(C^1\) selection \(f\) from a scalar set-valued map \(F(t)=[h(t),H(t)]\) (i.e., \(h(t)\leq f(t)\leq H(t)\)) is given. There is an extensive literature on selection theorems from set-valued mappings, but this seems to be the first \(C^1\)-selection theorem. The existence of the \(C^1\) selection is derived under the assumption that the two Clarke subgradient multifunctions \(\partial (-h)\) and \(\partial H\) are submonotone in the sense defined by \textit{J. E. Spingarn} [ Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 264, 77-89 (1981; Zbl 0465.26008)].
