Let \(G\) be a group and \(R\) a commutative ring. \(G\) is called \(R\)-perfect if \(H_{1}(G;R)=0\) and is strongly \(R\)-perfect if \(G\) is \(R\)-perfect and Tor\((H_{1}(G;\mathbb{Z}),R)=0\). Let \(X\) be a \(CW\) complex and \(H\) a normal subgroup of \(\pi_{1}(X)\). The authors define a generalized plus construction, \(X^{+}_{R}\), when char\((R)\not= 0\) and \(H\) is an \(R\)-perfect group, or char\((R)=0\) and \(H\) is a strongly \(R\)-perfect group. They use this construction to define suitable resolutions, which they call \(\Omega\)-resolutions, and provide conditions for the existence of these \(\Omega\)-resolutions. The definition is in great generality and a key property is that they compute the \(p\)-homology of the loop space of \(p\)-completed objects like the \(p\)-completion of the classifying space of a finite group.
