This paper studies the impact of cattle on joint dynamics and disease burden of Japanese encephalitis and leptospirosis. It compares two different peridomestic settings including a setting involving cattle with humans, pigs and mosquitoes and the the other setting involving humans, pigs, and mosquitoes without cattle. SIR models are developed for cattle, pig and human populations and an SI model is developed for the mosquito population. The paper estimates the total number of disability adjusted life year generated from Japanese encephalitis virus and leptospirosis infections for both settings and compare them to identify the better scenario. The study chooses Malkangiri, the south district of Odisha State in India, where both diseases are present. It is shown that the presence of cattle helps to reduce the annual disease burden in Japanese encephalitis-prevalent areas due to the mosquitoes's feeding preference.
