The authors obtain a nonconforming space discretization for the problem of nonlinear poroelasticity. The medium is modeled as a continuous superposition of solid and fluid phases. The momentum equilibrium equation is based on the decomposition technique given in [\textit{K. Terzaghi}, Theoretical soil mechanics. New York, NY: Wiley (1943)]. The difficulty here is to use both Lagrangian coordinates (for the solid part) and Eulerian coordinates (for the fluid part). The mass conservation equation is derived for fully saturated porous media assuming Darcean flow. Clamped impermeable boundary conditions and zero average pressure are considered. In order to avoid localized pressure oscillations, some discrete spaces (for the displacement and the pressure) are used, which satisfy an inf-sup condition. The hybrid-high-order (HHO) and the symmetric-weighted-interior-penalty (SWIP) methods are also used. Two important new elements exist: the given numerical scheme is valid in 2D and 3D and it delivers an inf-sup stable discretization. The well-posedness of the scheme is obtained by using some a priori estimates of the discrete solution, which are valid even if the specific storage coefficient vanishes. Some very interesting numerical tests are given in the last part, proving the high performance of the numerical procedure.
