The degree of Bowen factors and injective codings of diffeomorphisms (Q1986967)

\textit{O. M. Sarig} [J. Am. Math. Soc. 26, No. 2, 341--426 (2013; Zbl 1280.37031)] constructed symbolic finite-to-one extensions of surface diffeomorphisms. It is shown here that these maps induce Hölder continuous conjugacies on large sets having full measure for all invariant measures with certain hyperbolicity properties. An application of these results gives improved lower bounds on the number of periodic points for surface diffeomorphisms, and a characterization of those surface diffeomorphisms admitting a Hölder continuous coding of all aperiodic hyperbolic measures.
