A new family of distributions containing the Lindley geometric distribution as a particular case is introduced. Various mathematical properties of this new family are investigated. Some errors in [\textit{W. Gui} et al., Sankhyā, Ser. B 79, No. 2, 316--335 (2017; Zbl 1383.62038)] are also pointed out.
