The first main result of the paper is a generalization of the well-known ergodic closing lemma due to \textit{R. Mañé} [Ann. Math. (2) 116, 503--540 (1982; Zbl 0511.58029)] from \(C^1\)-diffeomorphisms to \(C^1\)-endomorphisms without critical points. The second main result deals with the robustness of entropy expansiveness for nonsingular \(C^1\)-endomorphisms away from homoclinic tangencies. The last main result states that the entropy conjecture due to \textit{M. Shub} [Bull. Am. Math. Soc. 80, 27--41 (1974; Zbl 0305.58014)] holds for nonsingular \(C^1\)-endomorphisms away from homoclinic tangencies. It generalizes the result of \textit{G. Liao} et al. [J. Eur. Math. Soc. (JEMS) 15, No. 6, 2043--2060 (2013; Zbl 1325.37031)].
