Let $H^\infty$ denote the algebra of bounded hololmorphic functions in the unit disc $\mathbb{D}$ and let $f_1,\ldots, f_n \in H^\infty$. The ideal membership problem is the question under which conditions on its size a function $f \in H^\infty$ belongs to the ideal generated by $f_1, \ldots, f_n$. The special case of $f$ being constant $1$ is the corona problem. The authors provide a new proof of a theorem of \textit{S. Treil} [J. Funct. Anal. 253, No. 1, 220--240 (2007; Zbl 1154.46028)]. Their proof uses the Nevanlinna-Pick property of the Hardy space $H^2$ to translate the ideal membership problem into a Hilbert space problem in $H^2$. The translation is known as the Toeplitz corona theorem in the case of the corona problem. A main new ingredient of the proof is an appropriate Carleson measure estimate.
