A Ricci soliton is a pseudo-Riemannian manifold \((M,g)\) which admits a smooth vector field \(X\) on \(M\) such that \[ r=\Lambda g+L_{X}g \] where \(L_{X}\) denotes the Lie derivative in the direction of \(X\), \(r\) denotes the Ricci tensor and \(\Lambda\) is a real number (\(\Lambda =\frac{1}{n}\left( 2\mathrm{div}(X)+S\right)\), where \(n=\dim M\) and \(S\) denotes de scalar curvature of \(\left( M,g\right)\)). A Ricci soliton is said to be shrinking, steady or expanding, if \(\Lambda >0\), \(\Lambda =0\) or \(\Lambda <0\), respectively. A Lie group \(G\) with a left-invariant pseudo-Riemannian metric \(g\) is called an algebraic Ricci soliton if it satisfies \[ \rho =\Lambda\, \mathrm{Id}+D, \] where \(r\) denotes the Ricci operator, \(\Lambda\) is a real number, \(\mathrm{Id}\) is the identity operator and \(D\in \mathrm{Der}(\mathfrak{g})\) with \(\mathrm{Der}(\mathfrak{g})\) the Lie algebra of derivation of the Lie algebra \(\mathfrak{g}\) of \(G\). \textit{J. Lauret} [Math. Ann. 319, No. 4, 715--733 (2001; Zbl 0987.53019)] introduced the concept of an algebraic Ricci soliton in the Riemannian case and proved that algebraic Ricci solitons on homogeneous Riemannian manifolds are Ricci solitons. In general, problems for Ricci solitons are second-order differential equations meanwhile algebraic Ricci solitons are given by algebraic equations. Therefore, algebraic Ricci solitons allow one to contruct Ricci solitons in an algebraic way. In this paper, the author studies conformally flat Lie groups with left-invariant pseudo-Riemannian metric of an algebraic Ricci soliton and he proves that any nontrivial conformally flat algebraic Ricci soliton on a Lie group must be steady and have Ricci operator of Segre type \(\{(1\ldots 12)\}\) and the only eigenvalue of \(D\) is \(0\).
