The author is concerned with accurate numerical solutions to the 2D unsteady and incompressible Navier-Stokes system in the velocity and pressure variables. The author introduces a new defect-deferred correction method based on a projection-based subgrid artificial viscosity method (SAV). It is abbreviated to SAV-DDC. Then he shows that this new method preserves all qualities of the artificial viscosity based defect-deferred correction method (AV-DDC), analyzed in one of his previous papers [the author, Comput. Math. Appl. 80, No. 5, 1029--1049 (2020; Zbl 1447.65066)], and is superior in choosing the AV approximation in the predictor step. Some numerical experiments are carried out. In order to compare the outcomes obtained with SAV-DDC, the author uses an exact solution which is a rotational flow. These tests clearly show that SAV-DDC is less dissipative than AV-DDC, and hence, could be able to capture turbulent characteristics of the flow better than AV-DDC.
