Periodic solutions of the Poincaré functional equation: existence (Q1998620)

The author finds necessary and sufficient conditions on a function \(f : I \rightarrow I\), where \(I\) is a compact real interval, for the Poincaré functional equation \(\psi (kx) = f(\psi(x))\) to have a cosine-like solution \(\psi : {\mathbb R} \rightarrow {\mathbb R}\).
