In 1991, Aubin introduced ``mutational analysis'' in which the idea of time derivatives of curves is extended to metric spaces. The authors study the mutational problem \[ \mathring{x}(t)\ni f\left( x(t)\right) \text{ on }\left[ 0,T\right) \] in a complete metric space. In this article, the authors are able to avoid an assumption made in [\textit{T. Lorenz}, Mutational analysis. A joint framework for Cauchy problems in and beyond vector spaces. Berlin: Springer (2010; Zbl 1198.37003)]. Neither Lipschitz continuity nor compactness are assumed. An existence and uniqueness theorem is proven which extends a result from [\textit{Y. Kobayashi} and the second author, Isr. J. Math. 225, No. 1, 1--33 (2018; Zbl 1454.34089)] -- it follows the same idea of proof using a sequence of approximate solutions. The assumptions are technical but involve continuity and growth, a subtangential condition and a general type of dissipativity. Continuous dependence of the solution on initial data is also proven. Various applications of the result are given: existence and uniqueness for a semilinear differential equation in a Banach space, global well-posedness for the mixed problem for the Kirchoff equation and existence and uniqueness for a mutational equation with delay.
