Let \(X\) be a complex normal projective \(\mathbb{Q}\)-factorial variety which verifies \(\text{Pic}(X)_\mathbb{Q}=N^1(X)\). \textit{Y. Hu} and \textit{S. Keel} [Mich. Math. J. 48, 331--348 (2000; Zbl 1077.14554)] introduced the notion of \textit{Cox ring} \(\text{Cox}(X)\) and of \textit{Mori Dream Space} (MDS): the variety \(X\) is a MDS if \(\text{Cox}(X):=\bigoplus_{L\in \text{Pic}(X)}H^0(X,L)\) is a finitely generated \(\mathbb{C}\)-algebra. The main result of the paper under review is a sufficient condition for the blow-up of a weighted projective space at the identity point not to be a MDS (cf. Theorems 1.1 and 1.2). This produces infinite sequences of new examples in dimension \(\ge 3\) (cf. Examples 1.4--6). These examples are obtained as special cases of a more general criterion (cf. Theorem 2.1), which produces nef but not semiample divisors for blown-ups of normal projective varieties with Picard number one. To check the hypothesis of Theorem 2.1 on the examples, one needs a result by \textit{W. Fulton} and \textit{B. Sturmfels} [Topology 36, No. 2, 335--353 (1997; Zbl 0885.14025)] (cf. Lemma 5.2). The author of the paper under review also compares these new examples to the ones produced by \textit{J. L. Gonzlez} and \textit{K. Karu} [Can. Math. Bull. 62, No. 2, 267--285 (2019; Zbl 1419.14077)] (cf. Section 6).
