Let \(R\) be a complete discrete valuation ring of characteristic 0, whose residue field \(k\) is a perfect field of characteristic \(p>0\). Let \(K\) be its field of fractions. Assume that the ramification index of \(R\) is no bigger than \(p-2\). Let \(A\) be an abelian scheme over \(R\). In the article under review, the authors construct a filtered F-isocrystal \(\mathbf{H}(A)_{K}\) on \(k\). When \(A\) is an elliptic curve, under a certain restrictions on some ``modular parameters'', the authors show that \(\mathbf{H}(A)_{K}\) is weakly admissible. The F-isocrystal constructed by the authors is attached to \(A\) in a canonical fashion, and has a filtered map to the crystalline theory of \(A\) (which has the Hodge filtration). However, the F-isocrystal defined by the authors is not the crystalline one: (a) the Frobenii of the two F-isocrystals are different; (b) the \(K\)-dimension of the new F-isocrystal may have lower dimension than the crystalline one. For instance, when \(A\) is a canonical lift of an ordinary elliptic curve, the filtered F-isocrystal constructed by the authors is 1-dimensional. The space \(\mathbf{H}(A)_{K}\) is the rational version of an \(R\)-module \(\mathbf{H}(A)\). The latter is related to the ``arithmetic jet space'' \(J(A)\) of \(A\) (which can be constructed using Witt vectors). If \(N\) is the subspace of \(J(A)\) consisting of ``jets'' supported on the zero section, then \(\mathbf{H}(A)\) is a quotient of \(\mathrm{Hom}(N,\widehat{\mathbb{G}}_{\text{a}})\).
