The aim of the article is to study Whitney equisingular deformations of a generically reduced curve (a germ of a curve with the origin as only possible non reduced point). A characterization of Whitney equisingularity is given by the constancy of the Milnor number and the multiplicity of the fibres along the parameter space. The equivalence between Whitney equisingularity and strong simultaneous resolution is proved. It is also proved that for a topological trivial deformation of a generically reduced curve, Whitney equisingularity can be characterized by the Cohen-Macaulay property of a certain local ring associated to the parameter space.
