\textit{S. Bochner} remarked [Bull. Am. Math. Soc. 53, 179--195 (1947; Zbl 0035.10403)] that the Riemann normal coordinates on a Kähler manifold \(M\), defined by the exponential map \(\exp_p :T_pM \to M\) is not holomorphic and he defined a holomorphic Kähler normal coordinates, using some holomorphic map \(\widetilde{\exp}_p : T_pM \to M \) . The authors study the map \(K := \exp_p^{-1}\circ \widetilde{exp}_p : T_pM \to T_pM\) , which describes the difference between Riemannian and Kähler normal coordinates. It is proven that \(K\) can be expressed as a universal power series in the curvature tensor and its iterated covariant derivatives. For Hermitan symmetric spaces, \(K\) is expressed in terms of elementary functions. It is proven that a complex totally geodesic submanifold \( N \subset M\) inherits the Kähler normal coordinates. The authors give a simple recursion formula for the Taylor series of the map \(K^{-1}\). The construction of Kähler normal coordinates depends only on the complex structure and the connection. This allows define such coordinates for balances complex manifolds with a torsion free linear connection \(\nabla\) which preserves the complex structure \(J\) and has the curvature tensor \(R\) such that \(R_{JX,JY} = R_{X,Y}\).
