    Let $K$ be a compact space and let $C(K)$ be the space of all scalar-valued, continuous functions on $K$. We say that $C(K)$ has the Grothendieck property for a subfamily ${\mathcal M} \subset C(K)^{*}$ of measures if every $\hbox{weak}^{*}$ null sequence $(\mu_n)$ from ${\mathcal M}$ is weakly null. $C(K)$ is said to be $\ell_{1}(K)$-Grothendieck if it has the Grothendieck property for ${\mathcal M} =\ell_{1}(K)\subset C (K)^{*}$, where $x \in \ell_1(K)$ acts as $\langle f , x \rangle= \sum_{\gamma \in K} f(\gamma) x(\gamma)$, with $\sum_{\gamma \in K} |x(\gamma)| < \infty$. This concept was introduced in [\textit{J. Kąkol}, \textit{D. Sobota} and \textit{L. Zdomskyy}, ``The Josefson-Nissenzweig theorem, Grothendieck property, and finitely-supported measures on compact spaces'', Preprint (2020), \url{arXiv:2009.07552}]. In the paper under review, results from the aforementioned paper are combined with results from [\textit{T. Banakh} et al., Rev. R. Acad. Cienc. Exactas Fís. Nat., Ser. A Mat., RACSAM 113, No. 4, 3015--3030 (2019; Zbl 1437.46029)] to prove the following theorem and some corollaries. Theorem. Let ${\mathbb N}^{\#}$ be the one-point compactification of the natural numbers. Then: \begin{itemize} \item[(i)] $C(K)$ is not a Grothendieck space if and only if $C(K)$ is linearly isomorphic to the space $C(K \oplus {\mathbb N}^{\#})$. \item[(ii)] $C(K)$ is not an $\ell_{1}(K)$-Grothendieck space if and only if $C_{p}(K)$ is linearly isomorphic to $C_{p}(K \oplus {\mathbb N}^{\#})$. \end{itemize}
