A spatial-temporal generalized finite difference method (GFDM) with an additional condition is proposed for two-dimensional transient heat conduction analysis of functionally graded materials. A 2D time-dependent problem is explored as a three-dimensional (3D) stationary problem by treating the temporal direction as the third dimension. A numerical experiment is presented to illustrate the performance of the developed method, and a comparison of numerical precision is made between the present approach and the conventional GFDM. This article is written clearly and easy to understand for learners. The abstract part is clear and what so ever the authors mention in the abstract is reflecting the title of the paper. The present method distributes collocation nodes in the 3D spatial-temporal domain, and treats the initial and boundary conditions for the original problem as the boundary conditions for the 3D stationary problem. An additional condition is then introduced to ensure well-posedness of the transformed 3D problem. The authors present the solution methodology clearly and no typographical errors are observed. Numerical results show that the developed method is more accurate than the conventional GFDM with the implicit Euler method, which indicates that the present method can reduce the accumulated error efficiently.
