In this paper, the authors study \(2\)-\((v, k, \lambda)\) designs with \(\gcd(r, \lambda) = 1\) admitting a flag-transitive automorphism group. They determine all such pairs \((D, G)\) where \(D\) is 2-design and \(G\) is flag-transitive almost simple automorphism group. Their main result is that such a design belongs to one of the two infinite families of Hermitian unitals and Witt-Bose-Shrikhande spaces, or it is isomorphic to a design with some given parameters. In addition, they prove the following particular case: if \(D\) is symmetric then it is either the Fano plane (7, 3, 1) or the unique Hadamard design with parameters (11, 5, 2).
