Let \(B_{d}\) be the unit ball in \(\mathbb C^{d}\), \(d\ge1\), as usual \(\mathbb D=B_{1}\) and \(S_{d}=\partial D_{d}\). For a holomorphic function \(\varphi:B_{d}\to \mathbb D\), the corresponding family \(\sigma_{\alpha}[\varphi]\), \(\alpha\in \mathbb S_{1}\), of positive Clark measures is defined so that \[ \int_{S_{d}}\left(\frac{1-|z|^{2}}{|1-\langle z,\zeta\rangle|^{2}}\right)^{d}\,d\sigma_{\alpha}(\zeta)=\operatorname{Re}\left(\frac{\alpha+\varphi(z)}{\alpha-\varphi(z)}\right),\quad z\in B_d. \] For an inner function \(\varphi:B_{d}\to\mathbb D\), the authors introduce and investigate unitary operators $U_{\alpha}$ mapping the space \(H^{2}(B_{d})\ominus\varphi H^{2}(B_{d})\) onto \(L^{2}(\sigma_{\alpha})\). Let \(\varphi: B_{d}\to\mathbb D\), \(d\ge1\), be an arbitrary holomorphic function. Using the introduced family of measures, the essential norm of the composition operator \(C_{\varphi}:f\mapsto f\circ \varphi\) from \(H(\mathbb D)\) into \(H^{2}(B_{d})\) is found.
