Let \(H\) be a Hilbert space. We say that an operator \(T\) on \(H\) is a \(C_0(2)\)-operator if its norm is less than one, \(T^n\) and \(T^{*n}\) converge strongly to zero as \(n\) goes to infinity, and the range of \(1-T^*T\) is equal to two. The purpose of the authors is to provide sufficient and necessary conditions for reducibility of a \(C_0(2)\)-operator (Theorem 2.1); apropos of the proof they use the associated characteristic function. The authors furnish an application by restudying the reducibility of the truncated Toeplitz operator defined on the model space with symbol \(z^2\).
