Let \(C\) be a smooth projective curve of genus \(g\) defined over a field with characteristic \(p>0\). Let \(m\) be the rank of the Cartier operator of \(C\). \textit{R. Re} in [J. Algebra, 236, No. 1, 80--92 (2001; Zbl 0990.14014)] proved that if \(m\le g-1\), then \(g\le (m+1)p(p-1)/2+mp\). In the paper under review the author proves that \(g \le p(p+1)/2\) if \(m=1\).
