The main aim of the paper under review is to establish Hecke-type double sums for the second and eighth order mock theta functions. The method is based upon Bailey's lemma and a Bailey pair given by \textit{G. E. Andrews} and \textit{D. Hickerson} [Adv. Math. 89, No. 1, 60--105 (1991; Zbl 0739.11042)]. Some identities for mock theta functions are also provided.
