The monograph brings a comprehensive solution of a problem that occurs in different variants in both Computer Aided Geometry Design (CAGD) and Finite Element Methods (FEM), and, last but not least in Isogeometric Analysis (IgA). It is the problem to construct a piecewise surface defined over a given unstructured mesh and minimizing a given functional. The authors present the solution in the form of Bézier \(C^1\) or \(G^1\) continuously connected patches on unstructured mesh made of convex quadrilaterals with vertices of any valence. The book is divided into seven chapters. Chapter 1 includes motivation and definition of the problem solved and a brief review of related works from CAGD, FEM and IgA. In Chapter 2, basic definitions of \(C^1\) and \(G^1\) continuity of two adjacent quadrilateral patches are given, the vertex enclosure problem is mentioned and the minimal determining set (MDS) of Bézier control points is defined. The detailed description of the method and the most important theoretical results are presented in Chapter 3 (construction of local MDS for quadrilateral meshes and polygonal boundary), Chapter 4 (construction of global MDS) and Chapter 5 (construction of MDS for a curved boundary). All these three chapters are completed not only with full proofs of the suggested theoretical approaches and results but also with a description of the algorithms. The presented theoretical results are demonstrated on several computational examples in Chapter 6. Chapter 7 concludes the monography and shows possible directions of further research.
