For the ferromagnetic Ising model with an external field \(h(x)\) on \(\mathbb Z^d\), the authors prove that there is a phase transition if \(h(x)\) vanishes like \(|x|^{-\alpha}\), as \(|x|\to\infty\) with \(\alpha>1\) and the Gibbs measure is unique if \(\alpha<1\).
