This paper is concerned with the study of the Little-Park effect in relationship with the Ginzburg-Landau theory, which describes phenomena arising in superconductivity. The analysis developed in this paper is based on the understanding of the spectral properties of a suitable magnetic Schrödinger operator. One of the central results of this paper establishes that the ground state energy of such an operator is not a monotone function of the intensity of the field, even in the limit of strong fields.
