A subset, \(A\), of the real line is left-porous at a point~\(x\) if there is a disjoint sequence of open intervals, \(I_1,I_2, \dots\), converging up to~\(x\) and all disjoint from \(A\) -- right-porosity is defined symmetrically. One can quantify the porosity by imposing length conditions on the intervals. The present paper is concerned with monotone functions, \(f\), defined on an interval of the form \([0,\delta)\) and that satisfy \(0<f(x)<x\) for all \(x\): if there is a sequence \(\langle a_n\rangle_n\) that decreases to zero and is such that \(I_n=(x-a_n,x-g(a_n))\) for all \(n\) then \(A\) is said to be left-\([g]\)-porous at~\(x\). For two such functions it is always possible to construct a closed set that is right-\([g]\)-porous everywhere but not the countable union of left-\([f]\)-porous sets, thus exhibiting a lack of relationship as indicated in the title of the paper.
