The aim of this paper is to introduce and study the class of almost limited sets in Banach lattices, which are an analogue of limited sets in Banach spaces, with the specialization to disjoint sequences. Namely, given a Banach lattice \(E\), a norm bounded subset \(A\subset E\) is called an almost limited set if every disjoint, weak-\(^*\) null sequence of \(E^*\) satisfies \(\sup_{x\in A}|f_n(x)|=0\). In this terminology, \(L\)-weakly compact sets are easily seen to be almost limited sets, and actually the authors prove that a Banach lattice \(E\) is order continuous if, and only if, every almost limited set in \(E\) is \(L\)-weakly compact. Applications to the weak Dunford-Pettis\(^*\) property are also given. The reader is referred to the interesting paper for further details.
