The paper deals with existence of standings wave solutions for the fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equation \[ \begin{cases} (-\Delta)^s u=f(u)-\mu u&in \ \mathbb R^N\,,\\ \|u\|_{L^2(\mathbb R^N)}=m\,, \end{cases}\] where \(\mu\) is intended to be determined along with the solution. Constrained critical points of the associated energy functional are investigated, in the so called mass-supercritical case, where \(f(t)\) grows faster than \(|t|^{1+\frac{4s}N}\). Under suitable conditions on \(f\), the authors prove the existence of a positive ground state solution for every \(m>0\), with the associated parameter \(\mu\) being positive. They also prove that the ground-state level strictly decreases from \(+\infty\) to \(0\) with respect to the parameter \(m>0\). The Pohozaev functional plays a key role in the proofs. The radial problem is also considered, where an infinite number of solutions is found. The authors mention that similar results were proved for the nonfractional case \(s=1\) in [\textit{L. Jeanjean} and \textit{S.-S. Lu}, Calc. Var. Partial Differ. Equ. 59, No. 5, Paper No. 174, 42 p. (2020; Zbl 1453.35087)].
