For the adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) strategy, the authors adopt a set of metrics to verify its performance in terms of accuracy and computation cost. This numerical study is based on the discontinuous Galerkin methods for the 2D shallow water equations on the specific adaptive triangular meshes. The refinement indicator is based on the gradient of water height. In this setup, the AMR strategy shows that the additional computational cost of mesh operations is acceptable and also problem-dependent. Detailed conclusions and discussions about the AMR efficiency based on these metrics can be found in the paper clearly.
