In the article under review, the authors' main results pertain to the existence of reducible theta divisors for syzygy bundles on general curves. A one example, they prove that if a degree \(d\) line bundle \(L\), on a general genus \(g \geq 2\) curve \(C\), has the two properties that: (i) \(h^0(L) = r + 1\); and (ii) its syzygy bundle \(M_L\) is strictly semistable, then its syzygy bundle \(M_L\) admits a reducible theta divisor. Second, the authors study the concept of cohomological semistability for syzygy bundles as defined in [\textit{L. Ein} and \textit{R. Lazarsfeld}, Lond. Math. Soc. Lect. Note Ser. 179, 149--156 (1992; Zbl 0768.14012)]. In the present article, the authors' second result is that if \(L\) is a degree \(d\) line bundle with \(h^0(L) = r+1,\) on a general genus \(g \geq 2\) curve \(C\), which has the two properties that: (i) the complete linear series \(|L|\) induces a birational morphism from \(C\) onto its image; and (ii) its syzygy bundle \(M_L\) is strictly cohomologically semistable, then \(M_L\) admits a reducible theta divisor.
