Let \(G\) be a Kac-Moody group over \(\mathbb{C}\), \(B\) a Borel subgroup, \(T\subset B\) a maximal torus and let \(W\) be the associated Weyl group. Let \(X:=G/B\) be the full flag variety. For any (not necessarily reduced) word \(\tilde{w}\) in the simple reflections of \(W\), let \(Z(\tilde{w})\) be the corresponding Bott-Samelson-Demazure-Hansen (for short BSDH) variety. Let \(Y_{\tilde{w}}\) be the toric limit of \(Z(\tilde{w})\) constructed by \textit{B. Pasquier} [J. Algebra 323, No. 10, 2834--2847 (2010; Zbl 1206.14076)] and \textit{A. J. Parameswaran} and \textit{P. Karuppuchamy} [``Toric degeneration of Bott-Samelson-Demazure-Hansen varieties'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1604.01998}]. The main result of the paper asserts that if \(\tilde{w}\) satisfies a certain \textit{Condition I}, then \(Y_{\tilde{w}}\) and \(Z(\tilde{w})\) are Fano. This extends earlier result for \(Z(\tilde{w})\) by the author [\textit{B. N. Chary}, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 222, No. 9, 2552--2561 (2018; Zbl 1423.14272)] in the case \(G\) is a (finite dimensional) simple group and \(\tilde{w}\) is a reduced word. Further, \(Z(\tilde{w})\) is locally rigid. In fact, \[ H^i(Z(\tilde{w}), T_{Z(\tilde{w})})=0,\text{ for all }i\geq 1. \] Moreover, if \(\tilde{w}\) satisfies a certain \textit{Condition II}, then \(Y_{\tilde{w}}\) and \(Z(\tilde{w})\) are weak Fano. In some earlier papers, \textit{B. N. Chary} et al. [Transform. Groups 20, No. 3, 665--698 (2015; Zbl 1326.14114)], \textit{B. N. Chary} and \textit{S. S. Kannan} [J. Lie Theory 27, No. 2, 435--468 (2017; Zbl 1429.14014)], the author [loc. cit.], [\textit{S. S. Kannan} and \textit{P. Saha}, Proc. Indian Acad. Sci., Math. Sci. 130, No. 1, Paper No. 19, 53 p. (2020; Zbl 1437.14049); J. Lie Theory 29, No. 1, 107--142 (2019; Zbl 1415.14016)] studied the higher cohomology \(H^j(Z (\tilde{w}), T_{Z (\tilde{w})})\) vanishing when \(G\) is a (finite dimensional) simple group and \(\tilde{w}\) is a reduced word.
