The paper deals with the existence of time-dependent solutions in classical Sobolev spaces of the three dimensional primitive equations with horizontal viscosity \(\nu_1\) and vertical viscosity \(\nu_2\). Moreover, the system is closed with in-plane periodic boundary conditions for the in-plane velocity and pressure, and homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions for the vertical component of the velocity on the vertical boundary. No boundary conditions are imposed for the in-plane component of the velocity along the vertical boundary. The author proves existence of solutions for the three different forms of the viscous stress and with \(\nu_2 \equiv 0\) in all three cases. The results of the three cases are listed in Theorems \(1.1\), \(1.2\), and \(1.3\). Additionally, for the third case in Theorem \(1.3\), the homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions on the vertical component of the velocity on the vertical boundary is dropped.
