Let \(K\) be a convex cone in an infinite-dimensional real linear space \(X\). It was stated in an earlier (collaborative) work of the first author that the relative algebraic interior of \(K\) is nonempty if and only if the relative algebraic interior of the positive dual cone of \(K\) is nonempty. In this work, the authors show that, in general, the direct implication does hot hold, even if \(K\) is closed with respect to the finest locally convex topology \(\tau_c\) on X. It is also shown that the reverse implication is not true if \(K\) is not \(\tau_c\)-closed. Further, as the main contribution, the authors prove that the latter implication is true if the algebraic interior of the positive dual cone of K is nonempty, leaving the general case as an open problem. An application is presented, where an improvement to a result about separation of cones, is obtained.
